Gamified tool - Attributs®
Home » Attributs® – Gamified Tool
Establishing a common vision of what characterises an innovation or an Innovation Intent is no easy task: it requires a common frame of reference to qualify its novelty, scope, value created, etc. The ATTRIBUTS® gamified tool allows concepts to be qualified in a structured way, helps to produce a clear description and promotes the identification of concrete paths for enriching them.
Attributs® - define, qualify and improve innovation concepts
ATTRIBUTS® is a gamified tool designed to support organisations in defining, qualifying and improving their innovation concepts, using a structured common language that is directly aligned with the ISO 56000 standard. It can also be used to formulate an organisation’s innovation intent.
This gamified tool is based on a structured set of cards organised into attribute categories, enabling the analysis of an innovation concept according to its nature, degree of novelty, target beneficiaries, types of value created for each beneficiary and for the project leader, and scope of deployment.
At the operational level, used alone or in a team, ATTRIBUTS® facilitates the emergence of a common language between stakeholders and enables the production of a clear, shared and reasoned description of an innovation concept, regardless of the maturity level of the project or the experience of the participants.
The game also allows, thanks to the questions on the back of the cards, the identification of concrete paths for improving concepts in order to reinforce their relevance, consistency and value creation potential before the development phases.
At the strategic level, ATTRIBUTS® facilitates the formulation of the organisation’s Innovation Intent by the management team.

Why use ATTRIBUTS® ?
In many organisations, innovation projects fail not because of a lack of ideas, but because of a lack of a shared frame of reference: different visions depending on the business line, poorly defined concepts, an insufficiently clarified value proposition, a poorly controlled degree of novelty, etc. ATTRIBUTS® addresses these challenges by offering a simple, visual and structuring tool that helps teams speak the same language, clarify the structural choices related to a concept and identify relevant paths for improvement.
The game consists of six categories of attributes:
- Entity : To specify the nature of the innovation. This category helps to clarify what actually constitutes the object of the innovation, which is often multiple and hybrid.
- Degree of novelty : To describe the intensity of novelty. This helps to raise awareness of the level of uncertainty associated with the concept under study.
- Beneficiairies : To identify all stakeholders for whom innovation creates value. This step avoids an overly restrictive vision or one that is solely focused on the end customer.
- Value for Beneficiary : To clarify the forms of value created for each target beneficiary.
- Value for the Project Owner : To highlight what the project will bring to the organisation developing it.
- Scope: To define the scope of deployment. A key lever for securing the development and industrialisation trajectory.
Phase 1 – Define and qualify a concept
Individually or in teams, participants select the cards (illustrated side up) that best correspond to the concept being studied, going through the categories in the recommended order. The cards serve as a basis for dialogue to formulate a precise and shared description of a concept.
Phase 2 – Challenge and improve the concept
The cards that are not selected in phase 1 are then explored on the reverse side, through structured questions. These encourage teams to challenge the concept and identify areas for development to enhance its value and scope.
At the end of the game, teams have a clear, structured and shared view of the innovation concept. This explains the key characteristics of the project (nature, novelty, beneficiaries, value, scope) and can form a useful basis for decisions, trade-offs and the next steps in the innovation process.
Phase1 – Defining Innovation
Individually or in teams, participants from a management team use the cards (to describe different concepts of innovation and align them with the definition of this word).
Phase 2 – Formulating the Innovation Intent
The Innovation Intent expresses management’s vision of how innovation should contribute to the company’s success. It inspires and guides innovation strategy and objectives.
A company rarely has the resources to pursue all forms of innovation. ATTRIBUTS® can help management teams define priorities and formulate a clear and communicable innovation intent in accordance with the requirements of ISO 56001.
The ATTRIBUTS® game is designed for those involved in defining, qualifying or supporting innovation projects, regardless of their precise role or level of maturity.

The game guides the thought process thanks to a simple, step-by-step structure that is independent of the participants’ level of maturity or expertise. It quickly produces a clear, shared description of the concept that can be used directly for the rest of the project development.
